Contact: Steve Schoger The Woodlands Cycling Club and Bike Lane Support Special Athletes in Triathlon November 5 The Woodlands, Texas – Nov. 4, 2011 - Bike Lane and The Woodlands Cycling Club have donated five new Raleigh bicycles to support a special group of athletes now in training for the first ever East Region triathlon on November 5, 2011 at West Side Tennis Center. In additional WCC has donated six of its jerseys to the Special Olympics team members and their coach. Five members of the Magnolia Magic Special Olympics team (Bethany Field-age 17, Maegan Herrrington-age 15, Jonathon and Andrew Westbrook-age 13 and Robert White-age 21 ) have received a high-end Raleigh Talus 3.0 bicycle made possible from The Woodlands Cycling Club and Bike Lane for the East Region Triathlon that consists of Level 1 and Level 2 Athletes. The Level 1 Athletes will compete in a 50 meter swim, 2 mile bike ride and 800 meter run. The Level 2 Athletes will compete in a 100 meter swim, 4 mile bike ride and a 1 mile run. A Relay Team competition is also offered to the athletes. These special Olympians are coached by Patty Havlin, Magnolia ISD Adapted PE Teacher. Cassie Northcutt, the area director for the Heart of East Texas chapter of Special Olympics, expressed appreciation for the donation. “We cannot thank The Woodlands Cycling Club and Bike Lane enough. With their generosity, our Athletes will have a great advantage in their training and competition performance. We are absolutely thrilled to partner with WCC and appreciate the donation of over $2000 in bikes for the athletes. ” Steve Schoger said “Our club rides often take place on Magnolia area roads, so we appreciate the opportunity to support Magnolia area athletes.
